First Steps to Literacy and Phonics

This 100% online course is designed to introduce you to the main concepts of literacy development and phonics for children, from the Nursery stage through to Junior and Adolescence. We will be looking at how to develop literacy and an interest in reading from an early age and how to translate this into stronger writing skills, which should be the end point of any literacy program. Some of the main points we will be covering include:

• Learning about literacy as a transversal skill
• Examining methodologies for teaching literacy at different stages of development in the EFL – bilingual classroom
• Learning how to teach synthetic phonics in the EFL- bilingual classroom; and
• Developing activities, curriculum programming and evaluation tools for literacy and phonics
